This webinar brings together three inspiring initiatives with hands-on experience in building collaborative networks for bioeconomy development. Through guided discussion and Q&A, panellists will share their strategies for stakeholder engagement and addressing complex challenges in their regional contexts.
Achieving a regenerative and inclusive bioeconomy requires collaboration across sectors and governance levels. Public authorities, farmers, SMEs, researchers, civil society organizations, and local communities must work together to co-design and implement solutions adapted to their territorial realities. This session aims to explore how multi-actor participation can unlock regional bioeconomy potential while ensuring long-term sustainability and social legitimacy.
The discussion will bring together practical experiences from leading European initiatives:
- Holger Gerdes, representing the SCALE-UP project, will share insights on strengthening regional multi-actor partnerships to scale up innovative bio-based value chains. SCALE-UP focuses on increasing capacity, improving market penetration of bio-based solutions, enhancing nutrient recycling, and linking bio-based innovation to rural development goals. The project promotes inclusive, regenerative and just transitions by empowering regional actors to deploy practical and scientific knowledge effectively.
- Jacobo Monereo, from La Junquera, will present a concrete example of regenerative transition in practice. Located in one of the most desertified areas of the Iberian Peninsula, La Junquera is a 1,100-hectare farm that has shifted from conventional agriculture to regenerative practices. Beyond farming, it acts as a regional hub for education, research, entrepreneurship, ecosystem restoration and community-building, demonstrating how land regeneration can create new rural opportunities and inspire territorial transformation.
- Pablo Méndez, from the GOV4ALL project, will introduce the Living Labs and Rural Regeneration Hubs established across the Mediterranean to co-design and validate soil health solutions. GOV4ALL brings together farmers, researchers, NGOs, policymakers and citizens to collaboratively develop regenerative soil management systems. By fostering mutual learning and participatory governance, the project builds pathways toward economically viable farming systems that protect natural resources and strengthen rural communities.
- Aran Blanco, bioeconomy and participation expert at Kveloce, will contribute expertise on participatory processes, stakeholder engagement methodologies, and governance frameworks that support co-creation and effective regional coordination in bioeconomy transitions.
Together, these perspectives offer a comprehensive view of how governance innovation, community engagement, regenerative practices, and multi-actor collaboration can drive meaningful progress towards a resilient and inclusive European bioeconomy.
