Transition to bioeconomy model regions must not only embrace socio-technical developments, but also address governance models and policies to make them fairer, more inclusive, or more just than the models they should displace. Social aspects such as gender equality, inclusion and communities’ engagement are considered in BIO2REG as key dimensions to ensure a fair and successful transition, together with job creation, development of innovative value chains or education.
In this workshop, we will gain inspiring insights on how different regions have adopted best practices to drive fair and just regional transitions. We will also engage in dynamic discussions on the potential of these best practices to be transferred to other regions and the risks and challenges that may arise, and how to assess the achievement of their objectives. This will serve to develop BIO2REG guides and other resources aimed at helping regions to deploy a systemic transition to a bioeconomy model region, and to set up a solid network fostering cooperation and knowledge exchange.
